Xero still can’t copy bank rules

Bookkeepers have asked for it since 2014. The two requests on Xero’s ideas forum have about 700 votes between them, and the advice is still to copy each rule by hand.

How it works

  1. Pick the rules to copyOpen the source organisation in Xero. RuleMover lists its spend, receive and transfer rules; tick the ones you want.
  2. Check the previewSwitch to the target organisation. RuleMover matches accounts, tax rates, contacts and tracking categories, and shows anything that doesn’t exist there so you can map it.
  3. CopyRuleMover fills in Xero’s own rule form for each rule, at a steady pace, inside your logged-in browser. You get a list of what was saved.

Questions

Is this made by Xero?
No. RuleMover is an independent tool. Xero’s API doesn’t expose bank rules, so it works through Xero’s normal screens, the same way you would by hand.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. The extension runs in your browser while you’re logged in to Xero. Rules are read and written on your computer and never sent to a RuleMover server.
What if Xero changes its screens?
The extension is updated to match. That’s included for the 12 months of your licence.
What if Xero adds this feature itself?
Then you probably won’t need RuleMover, and you can ask for a refund of any unused months.
